Small External Fixator (Wrist Fixators)
Penef Wrist & Penef Hybrid Wrist
Small external fixators are medical devices used to stabilize and support fractures of small bones, such as those in the hand, wrist or foot. They are particularly useful for complex or unstable fractures.
- Components: Typically include small pins or screws that are inserted into the bone through the skin, and rods or bars that connect these pins externally to hold the bone fragments in place.
- Versatility: Can be used for various types of small bone fractures, including those of the distal radius (wrist) and metacarpals (hand).
- Adjustability: Allows for adjustments during the healing process to ensure proper alignment and stabilization.
- Minimally Invasive: Designed to be minimally invasive, reducing the risk of infection and promoting faster recovery.
PENEF – Pennig type External Fixator
External fixator procedure is one of main treatment choice for distal radius and forearm fractures.
This is a classical type monolateral fixator for distal radius fractures to apply ligamentotaxis procedure. It has adjustable double ball joint and distraction unit of distal clamp.
Temporary fixation of fractures, nonunions, malunions, osteotomies, pseudoarthrosis, distal radius, arthrodesis of the wrist joint. It is especially used for the fixation of open and/or compound intra-articular fractures of the distal radius and for distraction and compression in the fracture area.
Hybrid Module External Fixator
A Hybrid Module External Fixator is a medical device used in orthopedic surgery to stabilize and support fractured bones, particularly in complex fractures.
It combines elements of both tubular external fixation and circular fixation techniques. It offers the benefits of both systems.
This is an extra module that can be add to PENEF and DEWEF optional. It is strongly recommended for anatomic reduction. And it allows early wrist motion after 3 weeks as well.
Indications of Small External Fixator:
- Deformity correction
- Distal radius fractures
- Colles fractures
- Bone transplantation
- Joint stiffness
- Fusion and Joint distraction
- Prefixation before ORIF
Features of Small External Fixator:
- The wrist joint can be mobilized without displacement of the fracture fragments.
- Lightweight and low-profile design
- Strong joint design for ease of reduction and allows for final reduction after fixation
- Allows visualization and monitoring of the fracture during reduction
- Treatment of both left and right extremities
- Allows for increased distraction
